Why it is not a subscription
Every other AI culler we know of is rented by the year, between about $120 and $960 of it, and none of them stop charging when you stop shooting. A culling tool is not a service. It runs on your Mac, on your photographs, and once you have it, it does not need us for anything.
So the deal is the old one. You pay once, you own that version, and if what we release next year is worth having, you decide then. If it is not, you have lost nothing and your copy carries on working.
A subscription would make it our business to keep you paying. This makes it our business to release something you actually want.
What you are not buying

No monthly bill One payment. There is no plan to move to, no seat to add, and nothing that lapses if a quiet season goes by.

No licence check that can fail mid-shoot The application does not phone home to work. It settles what it is allowed to do when it opens and stays settled — so nothing can run out at hour six of a wedding.

No higher tier holding your features There is one version of Cullwise. What you buy is what there is, and a feature you already paid for will not reappear behind a more expensive edition.

No catalogue you have to keep paying to read Your ratings and labels are written beside your photographs in the standard sidecar files. Stop using Cullwise tomorrow and every pick you made is still there.
The update year, plainly
Twelve months from the day you buy, every new version is yours to install. Cullwise tells you when one is out.
When those twelve months are up, nothing happens. No warning, no countdown, no reduced version. You simply stop being offered releases newer than your window, and the copy you have goes on doing exactly what it did the day before.
Renewing costs around $79 and buys another twelve months of releases from the day you renew. It is worth doing in a year we ship something you want, and worth skipping in a year we do not — which is the point of selling it this way.
