Closed beta
Cullwise is finished enough to be used on real shoots and is being used on them — by a small number of photographers, on invitation. It is not finished enough to hand to a stranger, so there is nothing to download here yet.
Fourteen-day trial when it opens up — everything unlocked, no card.
Where it is and what each stage means
-
Closed beta
You are here
A handful of photographers running the full application on real shoots, by invitation. Fixes land in days rather than releases.

Anyone can download it and run the fourteen-day trial. What has to happen first: the installer gets signed by Apple, so your Mac trusts it on the first double-click instead of warning you off it. That is paperwork, and it is under way.

On sale
After that
The trial becomes a licence you can buy. The price is already set and will not change: $179 once.

Releases
Ongoing
Small releases, often. Cullwise tells you when there is a new one and you decide whether to take it. Twelve months of them are included, and the version you have keeps working either way.
No dates, on purpose. The next two stages wait on Apple and on a storefront rather than on the application, and we would rather say what has to be true than name a day we do not control.
The current release
| Version | None public yet. Beta builds go out to invited testers directly, and the first public release has not been cut. |
|---|---|
| Installer | A .pkg you double-click. Around 1.6 GB — everything Cullwise needs is inside it, and there is nothing else to fetch afterwards. |
| What is new | Release notes |
What it needs
| Mac | Apple silicon — any M-series Mac. Intel Macs are not supported and the installer will refuse to run on one. |
|---|---|
| macOS | 12 Monterey or newer. |
| Disk | About 4 GB free while the installer runs; roughly 2.5 GB once it is in. Your shoots stay where they are — Cullwise does not copy them anywhere. |
| Photographs | RAW and JPEG. Every camera and file type. |
| Internet | To buy and to activate. Not to work. |
| Windows | Not supported. Say so if you need it — demand is how that gets decided. |
Not sure which Mac you have? Apple menu › About This Mac. If the Chip line starts with “Apple M”, you are fine.
Why Apple silicon only
Reading a four-thousand-frame shoot in the time it takes to make coffee needs the machine's own hardware doing the work. On an M-series Mac that hardware is there and Cullwise uses it. On an Intel Mac it is not, and the honest version of this application on that machine would be one you would not want to wait for.
So rather than sell a slow one, we do not sell one. Every Mac Apple has shipped since 2020 qualifies.
Updates
-
Cullwise tells you when there is a new version It checks quietly, at most once a week, and says nothing when there is nothing to say. You can also ask it at any time from the Cullwise menu.
-
Nothing happens without you saying so Cullwise can fetch the new version for you and open the installer, but only when you ask it to. It never replaces itself in the background, and it never installs anything you did not press a button for.
-
Your settings and your work stay put Installing over an existing copy keeps your preferences, your shortcuts, and every rating you have written.
